Well, that's not ALL I have to say, but still, I'm sure you all get it. Honestly, I don't care if they repeat, more or less, the same two themes (if it's not some huge motherfucking evil threatening to destroy the world, it's an evil fucking empire/kingdom/country threatening to conquer every-fucking-thing and it's ALWAYS up to a band of random people or lowly rebels who hate the evil empire/kingdom/country who join the cause and rise up against said huge evil/evil empire/kingdom/country). A shit ton of games involve exactly that. Shining Force II? A corrupt kingdom AND an ultimate evil and a bunch of KIDS are the damn leaders of a small army. Unlikely, no? Soul Calibur? Soul Edge, the ultimate evil and a fight to destroy said evil and half the people don't have shit all to do with anything, but some of them rise to defeat the ultimate evil. Shadow Hearts? MANY sources of evil trying to destroy the world, in which you have to stop it and your main character is a slightly psychotic harmonixer manages to get a group of random mismatched people to fight for his cause. Metal Gear? A bit far fetched, but relatively the same. It's one man against an army, whom we can safely assume is 'evil' (Note the fucking quotations before you get all fucking technical with me). That's only naming very few games, out of many with a relatively same story build.
Basically, what I'm trying to say is, no matter how you fucking look at it, no matter what fucking angle you're at, it won't change the fucking fact that there are a LOT of fucking games that repeat that same damn story build(s). So before you go off telling me that Final Fantasy is stupid because of it's story, take a look at other games, you may or may not be shocked at the fact that those stories happen all over the fucking place.
I guess what got me into this was a friend of mine whom is really into the Resident Evil series. Now, before you get on my case about what I'm about to say about the series, I'd like to let you all know that I really do like the series a lot, I'm just using an obvious reference to show he's a hypocrite (everyone is in their own ways, I just like to point out people's ignorance and flaws ). He noted how unoriginal the Final Fantasy series is and how it repeats the same-ish stories, thus making it stupid. What he didn't take into account was his own video game series obsession. Resident Evil, a series involving puzzles and zombies. EVERY TIME. Well, that's pretty much it (yes I know there's MORE to it, I'm not stupid. I'm just speaking in general terms you silly fucking humans). You start the game, you get introduced to zombies, you explore endlessly for hours trying to figure out what to do next, you press the same buttons to do the exact same things in most of the series the further you go the scarier the zombies/monsters. Fun. Of course, there are differences between the games, as there are in Final Fantasy, but at least Final Fantasy did something different for most of the games. ATB system, turn based, real time, MMO, Limit Breaks, Overdrives, Trance, Draw/Junction (which I actually LIKED), Materia, Job Classes... Sure they stuck 'random battle outta nowhere' for the most part, but at least they mixed things up and added new things to most of their games, either for better or worse, whereas the Resident Evil series was (NOTE: WAS) all about a fixated camera, blocky controls (before you get on my case about that, you have to admit, though easily mastered, the controls could get annoying, especially in panic moments), 'put these things I conveniently found after doing different things into this here place to get this new item that I need to unlock something or get another thing to use in the same sense' scenarios etc. How's that for a taste of your own medicine, eh? Again, I really like the series, I just had to explain it using his own kind of logic.
Also, on another-ish topic, predictability. So what if you can predict what's gonna happen at the END of the game. If the reason you don't play Final Fantasy is because you think it's too predictable, then obviously you aren't paying enough fucking attention to most video games, TV shows, movies etc. So by saying that, you must also think the same about movies and such and I know you all like movies. I mean, really. It doesn't fucking matter how much you think you can predict the end of the game, it's what leads up to the end that is what you're supposed to experience, so that you come to appreciate the ending that much more, even if it is what you predicted. Choosing not to play or like a game because you can predict is just shows you can't appreciate a good game when you see it. I mean, it's a great series and that's why it's survived with the great recognition it has today. Sure it doesn't have the twists and turns and knots of story line (with exception of the Final Fantasy VII compilation) of a Resident Evil, or even a Metal Gear, game, but that's not what it's supposed to be. It's supposed to be it's own thing and it is. It's Final Fantasy. Every Final Fantasy is deep in their own way and you'd know that if you'd actually play the fucking games. So shut the fuck up, grab a hold of a game system that has a Final Fantasy game on it, pop it in, and thoroughly play the fucking game. I dunno, it might be just me and I may have shitty opinions in games, but fucking hell, you can't really argue with the huge army of fans who will probably back me up in this... Well, you can, but that's besides the point. You're fucking stupid. :)
